University Specialist Mentoring

DSA NMH Specialist Mentor for Autism & ADHD Support

If you’re an autistic and/or ADHD student at university, you may be entitled to Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) funded support.

You may be eligible if you:

are studying in UK higher education (foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate, or placement year)
have a diagnosis of Autism and/or ADHD (or evidence accepted through the DSA process)
have been awarded DSA and Specialist Mentoring is recommended in your support package

I’m registered with Student Finance England as a Non-Medical Helper provider, offering 1:1 specialist mentoring for university students with DSA at all levels — foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate, and placement years.

What is NMH Specialist Mentoring?

You can think of a Specialist Mentor as a highly skilled, consistent support person who helps you:

make the “hidden curriculum” of university clearer
put structure around deadlines, workload, and routines
reduce anxiety and shutdown/avoidance cycles
develop self-advocacy and confidence
build sustainable habits that protect your wellbeing

Neuro-affirming, strengths-based support (no deficit narrative)
Practical, evidence-informed strategies that translate into real change
Consistency and continuity — a stable mentoring relationship
Warm, clear, non-judgemental approach that reduces shame and boosts agency

Support can be delivered:

online (most common, flexible, accessible)
hybrid where possible and appropriate in Brighton (depending on university guidelines and location)

I work with students across England, and sessions are arranged to fit academic timetables and energy patterns. Levels of study supportedI support students across:

DSA / NMH Specialist Mentor Support (Autism & ADHD)— £55 per hour (DSA-funded NMH rate)
